In the year 1984 Renault replaced its best seller citycar, the R5 with a new one with a more modern look and improved mechanics and design.
This new model was called SUPERCINQUE, that translates as Superfive, and it was drawn by the well known italian designer Marcello Gandini,
the same who signed the project of the Lamborghini Countach.
As Gandini wanted, the SUPERCINQUE exterior design had to be an evolution of the previous R5 model,
looking more bold and refined thank you to the use of moulded plastic fenders and panels that well integrated with the metal panels,
thus giving this citycar a distinctive look similar to that of a product.
The sporty version of the SUPERCINQUE was called RENAULT GT TURBO, and become very popular among the car entusiasts because of the look and the performances.
It was originally outputting 115hp, and was later developed to 120hp, and could reach 100km/h in less than 8 seconds.
